Strange-looking creatures dwell in the deepest parts of the ocean, where no light ever reaches. One of the inhabitants of this dark, high-pressure underwater habitat is the anglerfish. It has several unusual features.

Since it is so dark in the depths of Day, Jones's Locker, it is very difficult for fish to spot prey or to find mates. The female anglerfish solves the hunting problem by means of a long tentacle that extends upward from the top of her body. This tentacle serves as a fishing pole of sorts; its end emits a glowing light that the female anglerfish quickly snaps up her prey. At the appropriate moment, the female anglerfish's quickly snaps up her prey.

Nature has a relationship in which the male of the species of finding a mate by developing a much smaller male anglerfish attaches itself to the female's skin, and by being into her flesh. His mouth becomes firmly affixed to the female in its life-son they are even sharing the same bloodstream! After this stage, the female's skin and the male receives its nourishment through the connection to the female has been reached, its own digestive organs and other major organs deteriorate. Only the reproductive organs remain intact.
